We love summer, but we don't love dry curls! There's no denying that the sun, sea salt and chlorine can be drying and damaging to our hair. In this post, we'll be sharing our top tips on caring for your curls before and after exposure to the sea and pools. Whether your time in the water involves swimming lengths or simply splashing around, we hope to answer your post-swim curl questions right here!
Before taking the plunge, rinse your hair with cold water in the shower and apply our Curl Conditioner or Intensive Moisture Treatment before going in, this prevents hair from absorbing as much chlorine or sea salt as it would normally. Therefore protecting your hair from becoming overly dry.
It's time to revive those curls! Ensure to fully cleanse to remove any sea salt or chlorine that's lingering in your hair with our Hydrating Hair Cleanser. This is a low-foaming shampoo suitable for regular use. During a normal wash you might focus on your scalp, but on this occasion ensure to distribute the cleanser across your whole head of hair to ensure all salt and chlorine is removed. For an even deeper cleanse, opt for our Scalp Exfoliating Shampoo. The hydrogenated castor beads will remove product build up and dead skin cells. Plus it smells minty fresh!
Time to replenish moisture back into your hair! After cleansing, apply a generous amount of Curl Conditioner or Intensive Moisture Treatment to soaking wet hair for maximum hydration. You want to hear a squelchy sound when you squish your curls! Depending on how dry your hair is, you can then rinse, partially rinse or leave the conditioner in. Bear in mind that the Intensive Moisture Treatment contains protein, so it's best to use this as your main conditioner if your curls are particularly dry.
Next up, Curl Cream - for adding more glorious moisture and humidity protection. Apply this nourishing leave-in cream to wet hair and finish with a gel. Our bestselling Curl Defining Gel provides medium hold, great for tight curls and coils. While our Super Hold Styler is a strong hold gel, great for waves and loose curls. And if you want ultimate hold, layer the two!
Now you can have fun in the sun without the worry of drying out your curls. Happy swimming!
