I care passionately about the amazing planet we inhabit and it's preservation for centuries to come. In recent years there has been a lot of talk about global warming and climate change which is all too easy to ignore until it directly affects our lives. My husband alerted me to one of the major contributors to global warming - the destruction of forests across the globe.
Deforestation is clearing the Earths forests on a massive scale. The world loses around approx 100,000 hectares of it’s forests every day. The world's rainforests could completely vanish in a hundred years at the current rate of deforestation.
The world’s forests fulfill many roles they provide renewable raw materials, maintain biodiversity, protect land and water resources and play a role in the planet's climate control.
Deforestation also drives climate change. Forest soils are moist, but without protection from sun-blocking tree cover they quickly dry out. Trees help perpetuate the water cycle by returning water vapour back into the atmosphere. Without trees to fill these roles, many former forest lands can quickly become barren deserts.
Trees also play a critical role in absorbing the greenhouse gases that fuel global warming. Fewer forests means larger amounts of greenhouse gases entering the atmosphere—and increased speed and severity of global warming.
Global warming is a real issue it is forcing ice shelves in Antartica to calve. The Larsen Ice Shelf Expedition team predicts melting Antarctic shelves and bergs will raise sea levels around the world, flooding hundreds of thousands of square miles and displacing tens of millions of people.
You may not be able to quantify it in your every day life but it is happening and if measures aren’t taken to research and prevent it the lives of future generations will be bleak.
The quickest solution would be to simply stop cutting down trees. Deforestation rates have slowed a bit in recent years but financial realities make this unlikely to occur.
A more workable solution is to manage forest resources by eliminating clear-cutting and implementing reforestation. Any cutting that does occur should be balanced by the planting of enough young trees to replace the older ones felled in any given forest.
There are a number of reforestation organisations out there but one that grabbed my attention and I've chosen to partner with is Trees For The Future.
Trees for the Future is improving the livelihoods of impoverished farmers by revitalizing degraded lands. Since 1989, with their experience in planting over 115 million trees all over the world, they have demonstrated the transformative power of trees in helping people break out of the poverty trap while also addressing the global environment. Today, their work in East and West Africa is helping to build a world where people can leave a legacy of opportunity through sustainable practices and productive lands for future generations.
Now with every 300ml bottle or Travel Kit you buy from Bouclème we'll plant a tree.
Every tree planted typically absorbs 50 pounds of carbon dioxide out of the air every year. Imagine the difference planting 1/2 billion trees could make to the future of our planet!
Plant trees, save lives!
Bouclème, caring for curls and the planet.
More companies should do this to redress the packaging used for products and put something good back into the planet! Well done!
Their product is amazing their ethos is amazing…… I am in love 😍
What a wonderful idea!so pleased to hear my purchase will see 3 trees planted 🌳🌳🌳👏👏👏
OK, I am completely in love with Boucleme!
