Winter holidays, hot chocolates and cosy nights in. But what do colder days mean for our curls? We’ve teamed up with curl expert Gabriella – @curlmaven – to answer all your questions on caring for curly hair during winter.
Whether it’s your first winter with natural curls or you need a quick refresh routine to maintain definition for longer, here’s our roundup of curly hair products for the winter months.
1. Clarify your hair
Remember to clarify your hair at least once a month, especially if you live in an area with hard water. Use our Scalp Exfoliating Shampoo to remove product build up and stimulate growth in between regular cleansing.
2. Soothe your scalp
Scalp needing extra TLC? Add six drops of Dry Scalp Serum to your favourite cleanser on your next wash day. Instant relief from redness, flakes and irritation awaits.
3. Layer up the moisture
Up the moisture level in your curly hair during the colder months with Intensive Moisture Treatment. Apply to wet hair focusing on your ends and working your way upwards until you’re an inch away from your roots. Use a Denman brush to distribute the product evenly and detangle your hair gently.
4. Keep your conditioner in
Central heating and extreme temperature changes can make your hair drier. Whether you are using our Curl Conditioner or our Intensive Moisture Treatment, just rinse the product partially or leave it in fully to keep your hair moisturised for longer
5. Use lukewarm water and lower shower pressure
Another great tip to preserve moisture is washing your hair with lukewarm water and keeping the water pressure down too. The results? Improved definition and added volume at the roots.
6. Seal your hair with Revive 5 Hair Oil
After applying your stylers – on wet hair – add a few pumps of Revive 5 Hair Oil to your hands and scrunch it into your curls gently, avoiding the roots. It will seal in all the hydration you’ve just put into your hair and give you extra shine.
If your hair feels weighed down easily or if you have high porosity hair, try diffusing it at a medium heat, medium speed setting instead of air drying. In a hurry? Up the speed setting but not the heat to maintain your curls healthy.
8. …or plop and air dry
Prefer air drying? Wait 10-15 minutes after styling your hair and then use our Curl Towel to plop your curls. This will allow your hair to fully absorb the nourishment from the product you’ve just applied and will prevent the towel from absorbing it instead. Keep the towel on your hair for 20-30 minutes and then leave your curls to air dry.
9. Protect your hair at night
Treat yourself to a luxurious sleep with our Silk Pillowcase. Its silk fibers will prevent breakage and frizz forming while also keeping your face looking refreshed and glowing in the morning. What’s not to love?
10. Refresh with our new Foaming Dry Shampoo
Hats making your roots flatter? Try our new Foaming Dry Shampoo. Its wet foam dries to a powder which soaks up excess sebum and oil and adds extra volume at the roots. It’s also great as a quick refresh in the morning or post workout. Dry scalp? Try Root Refresh instead.
